We are proud to announce the merger of East Bay Family Defenders and Legal Services for Prisoners with Children.

Our shared mission is to end family separation, restore human and civil rights, and make a lasting impact in our community. East Bay Family Defender (EBFD) brings expertise in juvenile dependency law and a proven holistic defense model, while Legal Services for Prisoners with Children (LSPC) contributes four decades of experience in community organizing, policy and legal advocacy for directly and systems impacted families. Together, we will work towards reunifying families impacted by the criminal legal and family policing systems, advocating for policy changes, and creating a more just world. Thank you for your continued support.

The East Bay Family Defenders Project at LSPC will continue to support a nationally growing family defense movement through the following program activities:

  • training, technical assistance and consultation to parents, family members and community-based organizations working to keep families together and prevent the unnecessary and prolonged stay of children in foster care;
  • limited individualized legal advice and representation, with priority to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated parents, to prevent family separation and remove barriers to family reunification;
  • training and supervision of law and social work students; and
  • participation in organizing and advocacy aimed at ending family policing and creating a world where all families can thrive.
